Broiler

Open Houses
The most common broiler installation we encounter are conventional open houses either with open sides or environmentally controlled closed houses. The SUNBIRD® system is typically installed against the ceiling with row and light spacing based on Lux and uniformity requirements of the customer.
The system is supplied ready for DIY installation. The lights are crimped onto an illumination cable which is attached to a tensioned support wire which spans the length of the house. As the system is low voltage, an enclosure is supplied that houses the drivers which step the incoming AC voltage down to 48V DC. The enclosure is simply plugged in, and the lines to the lights are connected using lever terminals. The SUNBIRD® Dimmer offers manual, dusk to dawn from a timer or 0-10V control from an environmental computer. The SUNBIRD dimmer offers 1000 even steps between 0 and 10V or 0 and 100% starting at an industry leading 0.01V/%.
Caged Systems
The SUNBIRD® 3W light was developed and tested in a caged-broiler house. The product is designed to handle the abuse of the birds and that of the cleaning staff. With an IP69K rating, we welcome high pressure washing with chemicals and hot water.
The system is supplied ready for DIY installation. The lights are crimped onto an illumination cable which is typically attached directly to the cage ceiling either with or without a tensioned support. A single unbroken length of illumination cable runs from the enclosure through to the last light in the line.
As the system is low voltage, an enclosure is supplied that houses the drivers which step the incoming AC voltage down to 48V DC. The enclosure is simply plugged in, and the lines to the lights are connected using lever terminals. Feeder Pan Lighting
The durable SUNBIRD® 3W light is ideal for zoned feeder pan lighting. The robust design of the 3W light protects from continuous pecking, high pressure washing and intense physical or chemical cleaning. The product is designed to handle the abuse of the birds and that of the cleaning staff. With an IP69K rating, we welcome high pressure washing with chemicals and hot water.
The system is supplied ready for DIY installation. The lights are crimped onto an illumination cable which is cable-tied underneath the feed tube. Lights are either placed between each feed pan or every second one based on customer preference. A single unbroken length of illumination cable runs from the enclosure through to the last light in the line.

Layers

Aviary or Cage-Free Layer Lighting
Several years ago, we developed a product specifically for this application. As the market moves towards systems that are geared towards animal welfare, Aviary or Cage Free systems for egg production are becoming increasingly popular.
The SUNBIRD® 3W aviary lights provides the ultimate solution for lighting these systems. The system was developed with longevity, functionality, and installation simplicity as the driving factors in system design. The ultimate solution called for a low voltage system, with centralized control gear often installed at the head of a 500ft house, as few connections as possible, multi-tier dimming with the ability to dim to below 1%, along with a simple and robust means of connecting the lights. The lights would be subject to abuse by both birds and cleaning crews and would need to provide good spread from low installation heights.

Traditional Cage Systems
Lighting a multi-tier caged layer house is not a simple task. Historically, the farmer would install a staggered arrangement of lights hanging at different heights between the cage systems. This however creates poor uniformity on the feed troughs which is not ideal.
For systems with 4 or less tiers we run a single row of 3w lights with +- 1m spacing in each corridor and in line with the top of the system. This provides very uniform light on all troughs. The uniformity along the trough is more important than the intensity or level of light on each trough.
For 5 or 6 tier systems, we run two rows of lights with offset spacing. This provides uniform light along length of the trough while maintaining similar light levels on all tiers.

A-frame Layer Houses
The SUNBIRD® system is typically installed against the ceiling with row and light spacing based on Lux and uniformity requirements of the customer. A house with 3 rows of A-frame cages would receive 4 rows of lights spaced between the cages to provide uniform light to all surfaces.

Central Nests
Our strategy with central nest systems is to design the lighting layout in such a way that the birds are lured to the nests by diminishing the light intensity closer to the nests. A bright scratch area makes for an unattractive nesting spot compared to the privacy that a nest offers.

Manual Nests
Lighting for Breeder houses with manual nests is a bit more complicated compared to houses with central nests. The manual nests cause shadows around them and dark areas below them. In the design phase, the nesting box layout is dropped into the simulation software.
